Outreach & Service

mission project

In addition to our annual mission trip we are looking for ways to make a difference in our local community.  This year we did the first joint mission project with the Garfield UMC, replacing a front porch and building a ramp for a resident of the Garfield community. Spring 2015

On the 4th Friday of each month we get volunteers to help serve concessions and sell tickets at the local theater, as part of several community groups that have come together to make it possible for us to have a theater that runs 1st run movies.  To help you can show up on the 4th Friday between 6 and 7 pm or contact Marilyn Bell @ 285-2245 or by email.

Compassionate Responders:

The Compassionate Responders is a group that comes together to visit and take communion to people who are unable to attend worship for a variety of reasons.  The goal is to insure that all people experience a sense of God’s love and presence.  If you are interested you can simply attend the next meeting or talk to Pastor Bethann.

Worship (ushers, greeters, cookie bakers, readers, technology, nursery):

There are many opportunities to help make our worship services a true experience of welcome and worship.  They include helping welcome people as a greeter or usher, and signing up to bake or bring cookies for the fellowship time prior to worship.  As we are blessed with many little kids we also need people who are willing to help with nursery, and Children’s church.

If you are interested in being more a part of the worship service there are opportunities to read scripture, teach children’s time, or share special music.  As we have increased our use of technology in worship we also have found we need at least 2 people helping.

If you are willing to help in any of these areas please contact the office.

Visit Visitors:

Our goal is to visit our visitors as soon as possible after their first visit.  Our visit is intended to just be a warm welcome to the community of Larned, and an opportunity say we were glad you joined us.  If you are willing to make a short visit to visitors and bring them a small token of our welcome please talk to Janice Froetschner.

Food Pantry:

We serve as one of many groups in the community that volunteer to operate the Pawnee County Food Pantry, which is open Monday – Friday, 4-6 pm.  If you would like to help contact Connie Fox @ 285-6453 who coordinates our volunteers.

Budget Shop:

The Budget Shop is a ministry of the United Methodist Women, and is a major ministry to the community.  You can help the ministry of the Budget Shop by;  donating clothes and small household items, volunteering to work sorting or helping customers, or by shopping there.  The Budget Shop is open Thursday & Saturday 10:00 am – 4:00 pm. If you would like to help contact Susan Fox @ 804-1106.

Community Meal:

From the beginning of June through the end of July we serve lunch, Monday – Friday, 11:30-12:30.  Lunch is free to ALL kids 18 and under, with no requirements other than they show up.  Adults can eat for $3.50.  While this is a ministry of the church our goal was indeed to help our kids know that they are surrounded by a community that cares for them, so the meals are served by many different groups from our community, including the City of Larned, the schools, clubs, and other churches.  If you have questions or would like to volunteer you can contact Debbie Makings at 620-804-0673
